The power and possibility of the documentary human record exists between Archive, the objects of a life, and the Story that gives voice to those objects. I play with texts and images, moving back and forth between the two ends of Archive and Story. My aim is not to reach either end, but to learn from each journey how to make the next.
In the studio, I transfer, layer, juxtapose and rewrite. I teach myself to read and see documents in new ways. And my painting and printmaking backgrounds are layered with my library career and medieval history education.
The final form of the work may be a painting, hanging sculpture or text. My sources are the open potential of the Archive collection in any format. The Story may be a narrative voice, a way between things or even the absence of such a path.
